Top of Mind
This is the second newsletter I’m missing in a row, but I’m writing to tell you it’s for a good reason.
Last Thursday, at 2:35 pm, weighing in at 7 lbs. and 8 oz., we welcomed Wilder Gray Eaton to the world. It was a harrowing adventure, but I am happy to report that mom and Wilder are doing great and we are now a week into this new adventure.
Because of this adventure, I can’t guarantee a robust newsletter each week, but I am going to commit to sending something out. Even if it is just a few links to albums, articles, and podcasts that I think it is Worth Your Time to listen to.
On Thursday, in a follow-up to his excellent Weekly Article (“The Death and Birth of Technological Revolutions”), Ben Thompson announced some changes to this format of Stratechery (emphasis mine):
What I am excited about is producing what I think will be better content that meets this new moment, to be “wrong” more often, incorporate your feedback, and iterate. I’ve always said that Stratechery is my journal of figuring out how the world works, and I want to get back to that exploration, not being the establishment in my own right.
“My journal for figuring out how the world works”. I just love that line. As I lay on the couch with little Wilder this week I realized this is often what I’m trying to do through the latticework of content I consume, figure out how the world works. And now I’ve got a new pair of eyes to do it through.
So over time, you may see a shift in content and tone here as I explore and layout my own mental models of how the world works. Both for you and my son. Damn, it really does feel great to type that. Thanks for being on this journey with me. Until next week.
